3 Trade Destinations For Domantas Sabonis

Three-time All-Star Domantas Sabonis wants out of Sacramento. That seems to be the prevailing notion, particularly after he switched agents this summer to Aaron Mintz of CAA. That's the same agent that engineered a Trae Young trade out of Atlanta last season, and the one who got Walker Kessler dealt from Utah to the LA Lakers.

Sabonis is eligible for a contract extension, but there isn't one forthcoming at this point from the Kings, who are building a young core.

Let's have a look at three potential trade destinations for the NBA's three-time rebounding king.

Toronto Raptors

According to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, the Raptors have had talks with the Kings about Sabonis this summer, though he notes that trade talks between the two clubs were far more serious at the trade deadline in February.

The Raptors are still hoping to get their Kawhi Leonard trade with the Clippers completed (the Clippers are holding it up for unknown reasons). But also adding Sabonis would certainly make Toronto a team to beat in the East.

Charlotte Hornets

"Charlotte is a team that still could be in the mix for him," Fischer said, "depending on Sacramento's price point." The Hornets were also in discussions this summer with the Kings on Sabonis.

The Bugs are building something exciting in Charlotte, with Brandon Miller, Kon Knueppel, Naz Reid and Coby White on board. Adding Sabonis would make them a contender in the East.

Detroit Pistons

If the Pistons are not able to come to terms on an extension for restricted free agent Jalen Duren, this is something that will have to be revisited. A sign-and-trade with the Kings for Sabonis could work for both parties. We do know that Duren has interest in the Kings (or at least in the max money they'd be willing to give him) as he had a meeting with GM Scott Perry earlier this summer.

In the end, a deal for Sabonis might be difficult, as Fischer says. "The Kings have been adamant that they want positive trade value for Sabonis." Other than a proposed Duren swap with the Pistons, rival teams have not come forward with the value that the Kings are looking for. Certainly, teams may be concerned that after Sabonis was only able to play 19 games last season due to a knee injury, they'll have to see him regain his All-Star form before offering up equal value.
