Top 3 Trade Targets for Dallas Mavericks This Season
The Dallas Mavericks are Cooper Flagg's team. That much is clear. Kyrie Irving will almost certainly be on the way out at some point this season, as the 34-year-old will take his act elsewhere and leave the Mavs in Flagg's hands.
The youth movement will need to take another step or two forward in 2026-27, and to that end, we take a look at the top 3 trade targets for the Mavericks this season, as listed by Dan Favale in Bleacher Report.
Scoot Henderson
The backcourt is getting awfully crowded in Portland these days. Since Henderson was drafted with the 3rd overall pick to be their point guard of the future back in 2023, a lot has changed for the Trail Blazers.
Damian Lillard has come back, and the team has traded for, first, Jrue Holiday, and then Ja Morant. That's a lot of starting point guards for one backcourt. And it leaves Henderson on the outside looking in. That should make Dallas sit up and take notice, as they should be excited by the potential upside of Scoot if he has his own team to run from the point.
Reed Sheppard
The 3rd overall pick the year after Henderson, in the 2024 Draft, Sheppard is another young guard who stepped up big-time last season for the Houston Rockets, averaging 13.5 ppg in 26 minutes a night, playing all 82 games in only his 2nd NBA season. But with Fred VanVleet back this season, and Marcus Smart in town, Sheppard could take a back seat and be available for the Mavs to pounce on.
Tre Jones
The Bulls guard is now in his 7th NBA season and has become a reliable secondary scorer, having averaged 14 points per game with 5.4 assists. "Getting him would immediately make life easier on Cooper Flagg and improve the shot quality of any Mavericks center," writes Favale.
