Former Raptors Forward Chris Boucher Lands in Unlikely Destination

Chris Boucher had remained out there as one of the remaining unsigned NBA free agents, with the season now a couple of weeks old. He has decided to wait no longer to get back on the floor, and has signed to play overseas.

Boucher is heading to China to play with the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association. He'll be replacing longtime NBA veteran JaVale McGee on the roster, whom the Sharks have waived after averaging 5 points and 2.9 boards. Still on the team is another notable former NBAer who signed this year, D'Angelo Russell.

Boucher has an NBA championship ring from his time with the Toronto Raptors. He spent a total of seven seasons in Toronto, posting 8.9 points per game and 5.1 rebounds as a long & lengthy big off the bench. He even received some down-ballot Sixth Man of the Year votes in 2020-21 when he averaged 13.6 ppg while playing over 24 minutes a night for the Raps. He also blocked 1.9 shots per game.

He spent last season with the Boston Celtics, where he only played in nine games. The Celtics eventually traded Boucher to the Utah Jazz, who subsequently waived him.

The 6'8" center/power forward has a wingspan of 7'4", and, when he's on, can also spread the floor with shots from long-range, though that part of his game is extremely erratic.
