Report: John Calipari Open To Returning To NBA As Head Coach

University of Kentucky head coach John Calipari is open to turning back the clock and coaching in the NBA, according to multiple sources at Yahoo Sports. It's being reported that "he may have maxed out at Kentucky" and that "college basketball is a sinking ship."

Calipari, 62, has experience coaching at the NBA level. In the late 1990s, he was at the helm for the then-New Jersey Nets. He led them to the playoffs in the 1997-98 season but was promptly fired early in his third year after starting 3-17.

Although his first go-around in the NBA was fraught with disappointment, sources at Yahoo Sports say that "he is much different ... but that ego is hard to tame." The touted head coach will bring cache and tutelage to wherever he goes, but his reputation as an effusive in-game leader will beg the question — can he adjust to the fast-paced, modern NBA?

Kentucky has reached the national championship twice under Calipari, including a title in 2012. He has also led them to two Final Four appearances. However, this past season the Wildcats finished a lackluster 9-16.
