NBA Rumors: Miami Heat Hot On Trail Of Rockets Big Man

The Houston Rockets have a number of trade pieces that teams have inquired about approaching the Feb. 10th deadline, but none bigger than big man Christian Wood. And word today is that the Miami Heat are hot on his trail.

"Miami has been one of the more persistent teams in engaging with Houston on the versatile big man," writes The Athletic's Kelly Iko.

The Heat are a serious challenger this season, currently sitting atop the Eastern Conference, at 30-17. But they've had some injury problems in their frontcourt to deal with thus far. Bam Adebayo is finally back after missing about six weeks with a thumb problem, while Dewayne Dedmon is back in the lineup, but playing mostly reduced minutes after having a knee problem that kept him out for a bit.

Miami would love an upgrade up front like Christian Wood, who's averaging 17.5 points and a career-high 10.3 rebounds for the Rockets.

According to Iko, however, the Rockets would have to receive a "blow me away" offer to move their leading scorer.

It would be fun, though, if the Heat are able to make it work, to see if Wood would be willing to pull any of his "refusal to play" stunts as he did earlier this  month, under Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra.
