NBA Rumors: Magic Unlikely To Buy Out Shooting Guard

The Orlando Magic are in an all-out rebuild, with the likes of Cole Anthony, Franz Wagner and Jalen Suggs all checking in at age 21 or younger. Many observers had felt that a 27-year-old Gary Harris didn't seem to fit the long-term plan and could be bought out by the team if he wasn't traded at the deadline.

However, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, "a source close to Harris said he didn’t believe" he would be a buyout candidate.

Harris is playing 30 minutes a night for Orlando, averaging 11.5 points and shooting 38% from long-range, so it would seem like an odd move for the Magic to leave a hole such as that in their rotation, for nothing in return.

The shooting guard is in the last year of a 4-year, $84M contract, and is a free agent at season's end. With the key role he's playing for the rebuilding Magic, giving them a young veteran presence with some good production, Scotto and NBA Salary Cap expert Yossi Gozlan feel that Harris's best chance at a good free agent contract might indeed come from the Magic.
