Lakers Sign Player And Waive Another

The Los Angeles Lakers have waived DeAndre Jordan and signed D.J. Augustin.

Jordan was signed to a veteran's minimum contract. Although the signing looked promising at first, the Lakers have dropped his playing time over the last few months. Thus, this is a move that the veteran is likely okay with, as he should be given more opportunities elsewhere. In 32 games this season with the Lakers, he averaged 4.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 0.4 assists.

The Lakers are adding another veteran in Augustin, however. The 34-year-old played in 34 games with the Atlanta Hawks this season, where he averaged 5.4 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists. Although he has had himself a decent campaign as a role player, the Hawks still opted to release him after the trade deadline.

Overall, the Lakers are letting go of one veteran to bring in another. Augustin will provide more depth at the point guard position, as he will be backing up Russell Westbrook. As for Jordan, it shouldn't take him too long to find himself a new home. The Philadelphia 76ers are currently linked to him.
