NBA Rumors: D'Angelo Russell An Option For Knicks

Finding a capable starting point guard was a challenge for the New York Knicks this past season, and their goal is to take care of that glaring shortfall this summer. Free agent Jalen Brunson, of course, is their main target, as we've been hearing for months. And we all know that they'd love to get their hands on Utah's Donovan Mitchell.

But according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, failing those grandiose plans, the Knicks could have a good fallback option in Minnesota Timberwolves point guard D'Angelo Russell.

"Rival executives have pointed to Russell as a potential lower-level trade target," writes Fischer. And there's a connection there that makes some sense: "New York's front office recently added former Minnesota president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas, who once chased Russell in free agency and later traded Andrew Wiggins to Golden State for the creative point guard.

While a trade for Mitchell seems unrealistic at this point, and Dallas owner Mark Cuban reportedly going all-in on retaining Brunson, Russell could be next on the Knicks wish list.
