NBA Rumors: Kyrie Irving "Trying To Make His Way To The Lakers"

Now that Kyrie Irving and the Brooklyn Nets have apparently started to draw up divorce papers, where does Kyrie see his next marriage? According to a report in The Athletic, he's "trying to make his way to the Los Angeles Lakers."

Sam Amick reports that "there are sources very close to the situation who strongly believe Irving is trying to make his way to the Lakers here and everything else is just (necessary) noise. The sense I get is that (LeBron) James is very open to the idea." But according to Insider Adrian Wojnarowski, there's some work to be done on this front.

Woj says there are no other teams interested in doing a sign-and-trade for Kyrie, and that the Nets aren't interested in any of the Lakers players coming back. Sounds like a 3rd team, at least, will be needed to make something work.

Kyrie and LeBron had an ugly divorce themselves back in their Cleveland days, with Irving wanting out after winning a championship there, as Irving "wanted to play in a situation where he can be more of a focal point and that he no longer wants to play alongside LeBron James," as reported at the time by ESPN's Brian Windhorst.

It seems as though things are patched up between the two, as a recent rumor had LeBron and Kyrie already discussing a reunion.

Where this all leaves the Lakers' current point guard, Russell Westbrook, is another juicy drama just waiting to unfold.
