Insider Hot Take: Knicks Regime “Will Be Fired” If They Don’t Land Donovan Mitchell

The Donovan Mitchell to the New York Knicks flames have been fanned to red-hot these last couple of days. It almost seems inevitable. In fact, according to ESPN's Tim Bontemps, it's at the point now where "if the Knicks don't get this trade done, this is what gets this whole regime fired."

Bontemps was speaking on The Hoop Collective podcast. “This is the moment the Knicks have been waiting for. To get a star player. This is the star player that they can go get. To me, they HAVE to get this done."

And it seems that Danny Ainge and the Jazz know this. That would explain their outrageous trade demands of earlier this week. Ainge has stirred up the pot so that the Knicks almost don't have a choice anymore.

The problem is that the Jazz were able to extract five first-round picks (4 future firsts, plus the 2022 first-rounder) from the Minnesota Timberwolves for Rudy Gobert. So now Trader Danny figures he can ask for even more for Spida. And the Knicks do have up to eight available, tradable, first-round picks.

Mitchell, it would seem, clearly wants it. He's from New York, his father works for the New York Mets, he is very attached to the area.

Final word, once again, goes to Bontemps: "If they don't get Donovan Mitchell, there's gonna be hell to pay."
