NBA Rumors: Danny Ainge & Jazz "Trying to Make History"

The trade talk has reached a deafening roar around the Utah Jazz and New York Knicks over Donovan Mitchell. The Jazz All-Star has been spending plenty of time in his hometown this weekend, and team CEO Danny Ainge can just taste the massive haul he might be able to pull off.

ESPN's Tim MacMahon says that Ainge is "trying to make history" with a Mitchell trade to the Knicks.

"Trader Danny, Danny Ainge, he's trying to make history here. The Jazz are saying, 'hey, since we got five first-round picks in the Rudy Gobert return, ah, we want more than that for Donovan Mitchell. That would be a historic haul."

And that's what the Jazz want in return: "Picks, picks, picks, picks," says MacMahon. But at the same time, he also says the Knicks need to be careful that they're not bidding against themselves.

"Nobody but the Knicks who is really going to be in the mix for Donovan Mitchell can put that package on the table. So they have to be careful: 'Are we outbidding everyone else by two picks?' What sense does that make?"
