Warriors Release Fan Favorite & G League Rookie Of The Year

We reported yesterday that the Golden State Warriors intended to bring in 3-year veteran guard Ty Jerome on Monday. Unfortunately, for fellow guard Mac McClung, he found out today it would be at his expense.

The move comes as a bit of a surprise after his exciting performance in the Warriors' second preseason game in Japan.

McClung scored nine points in fueling the Dubs' 4th-quarter comeback against the Washington Wizards in Tokyo. He even wowed the crowd with a sick dunk during pregame warmups, getting his 6'2" frame some serious air time.

As the only player at the Warriors' camp without an Exhibit 10 contract, however, and with a non-guaranteed contract, he was likely to be waived at some point if he wasn't going to make the 15-man roster.

The 23-year-old McClung went undrafted in 2021, and spent most of last season putting up big numbers in the G League. In 27 regular season games, he put up 21.5 points per game, 7.5 assists and 6.7 rebounds along with 1.5 steals and a 37.5% rate from three-point range. He followed up that impressive performance with a strong Summer League showing as well for the Warriors.

Hopefully the fan favorite and YouTube sensation can find himself an opportunity with another team.
