Would Fred VanVleet Trade Scottie Barnes For Kevin Durant?

It was the talk of the NBA during the summer. Disgruntled Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant demanded a trade, and the Toronto Raptors were said to be one of the prime suitors. The word was that the Nets wanted 2022 Rookie of the Year Scottie Barnes as part of any trade package, but that the Raptors would not make him available.

So what does team floor leader Fred VanVleet think of that trade possibility? Would he have traded Barnes for KD? He was asked that question by his old teammate Serge Ibaka in his latest edition of the YouTube series "How Hungry Are You?"

“I wouldn’t do it,” VanVleet said while shaking his head. “I told you I’m a loyal guy, man, I’m not a trade guy. I wouldn’t do it.”

When Serge asked him again, just to make sure, "So you'd turn down Kevin Durant to keep Scottie?", Fred gave a deep breath, and confirmed it again, "Yes."

Barnes is 13 years younger than Durant, and is only scratching the surface of what he can be in the league. He's averaging 14.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 5.2 assists, along with shooting 35.5% from 3-point land.

VanVleet also made another bold declaration during his chat with Ibaka, his teammate on the 2019 NBA Champion Raptors. He said if Kawhi Leonard would have stayed in Toronto, the Raptors would have "three-peated". Of course, that's assuming Kawhi would have been able to stay on the court.
