NBA Rumors: Update On 3 Former All-Stars & Taiwan League Options

While Dwight Howard continues to tear it up in Taiwan, while calling on his fellow former jobless NBA All-Stars to join him, a report from Insider Marc Stein today says that Carmelo Anthony, DeMarcus Cousins and Isaiah Thomas "have thus far shown zero interest" in joining Howard in the Taiwan T1 League.

A report last week had a Taiwan team chasing hard after Boogie Cousins, the 4-time NBA All-Star, but he is so far not obliging. Stein says all three are still hoping for another shot in the Association.

Sources stress that all three are determined to keep searching for their next NBA opportunity irrespective of any overseas interest. For Anthony, especially, it’s believed that playing in the NBA in his 20th season — right where (LeBron) James is longevity-wise — holds considerable meaning for the 38-year-old.

Melo came into the league in the same 2003 Draft as LeBron, and would like to reach the 20-year mark.

He had a fine season off the Los Angeles Lakers' bench last year, averaging 13.3 points while shooting 37.5% from long range. He also played better defence than he had in years, per the metrics. Anthony is a 10-time NBA All-Star.

Thomas had a nice finish to the 2021-22 season, playing a role off the bench, adding a little bit of scoring, ballhandling, and being a solid presence in the locker room. He was once a two-time All-Star, but, like with Cousins, leg injuries have robbed him of his explosiveness and the ability to be a starter in the league.

But in both of their cases, teams came calling later on in the season last year; they're hoping that's the case once again.

For Carmelo, it's all really a mystery why he doesn't yet have a job
