Memphis Grizzlies Guard Ja Morant Dominates in Win Over San Antonio Spurs

The Memphis Grizzlies topped the San Antonio Spurs 135-129 on Wednesday night on the back of a huge night from their young superstar. Point guard Ja Morant exploded for 38 points on 14-25 shooting while adding five rebounds and four assists.

It was Morant's seventh 30+ point effort over his past 10 games. The evening lifted his season averages to 27.6 points per game, 7.9 assists per game, and 5.9 rebounds per game. All three are career highs.

Morant has built on his breakout, All Star 2021-22 season and has the Grizzlies at 28-13, the second-best record in the Western Conference at the season's halfway mark. They've made steady progress year-to-year since taking Morant second overall in the 2019 NBA Draft: after missing the playoffs in his rookie season, they reached the first round in 2020-21 and then the semi-finals in 2021-22. At this rate, they'll have a great chance to take yet another step forward this postseason.

The Grizzlies travel to Indiana to face the Pacers Friday night.
