NBA Names First-Ever G Leaguer To NBA Slam Dunk Competition

A new twist is coming for the NBA's Slam Dunk competition at next month's All-Star Weekend, in the form of G League and YouTube dunking sensation Mac McClung. As a fan favorite everywhere he goes, it's safe to say he instantly becomes the odds-on favorite to win the contest.

And with that, the 6'2" viral dunking machine will become the first ever G Leaguer invited to the big dance.

McClung, 24, spent this past offseason with the Golden State Warriors Summer League team and dazzled onlookers, time and again.

He even made the trip with the Dubs to Tokyo to participate in their preseason games, and he made a huge impression in the second contest.
McClung was the G League Rookie of the Year in 2021-22, averaging 21.5 points, 7.5 assists, 1.5 steals, and countless awe-inspiring highlights.

McClung has only played two games in the Association, one for the Chicago Bulls and one for the Los Angeles Lakers last season; it's a shame he hasn't really gotten a crack at it in the NBA. But, at least for All-Star Weekend, he'll get his chance to shine.
