San Antonio Spurs Re-Sign Big Man Days After Waiving Him

When the San Antonio Spurs traded for center Noah Vonleh from the Boston Celtics on January 5th for cash considerations, they had to make room on the roster, and waived a locker room favorite and veteran leader, Gorgui Dieng.

But they then proceeded to waive Vonleh, and now three days later, Dieng is back in tow with the Spurs.

The team has signed Dieng to a 10-day contract. This marks the 3rd time in three seasons that the Spurs have signed Dieng. He was also with the team during the 2020-21 season, playing 16 games before a shoulder injury ended his season. He joined the Atlanta Hawks last year, and the Spurs re-signed him for the 2022-23 season.

The 6'10" center/power forward is a 10-year veteran, with career marks of 7.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and 36.3% shooting from beyond the arc. This year with the Spurs, he's gotten into 13 games, averaging about 11 minutes on the floor, with 4.1 points and 3.2 rebounds.
