NBA Rumors: Top 3 Potential Landing Spots for New Free Agent Rudy Gay

The NBA's newest free agent is 17-year veteran scorer Rudy Gay. He was waived on Thursday after having been traded twice this offseason. Granted, his 20 PPG days are in the rearview mirror, but he could still provide some veteran leadership and scoring off the bench, in limited minutes.

In fact, the word from NBA Insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype is that he will be drawing interest from "several playoff-caliber teams." Let's have a look at the top 3 potential landing spots for Rudy Gay.

Golden State Warriors

With Andre Iguodala now retired, could Gay fill that veteran role, offering a forward off the bench in a limited role who can put the ball in the basket on occasion?

The Dubs are obviously not averse to bringing in grizzled veterans to help fill out their roster in a push for another title, as their addition of Chris Paul illustrates.

Los Angeles Lakers

Yes, the Purple & Gold have to be considered whenever a savvy veteran comes on the market. Although they've already added Taurean Prince and Cam Reddish to their forward rotation this offseason, neither of them possesses the experience or track record of a veteran like Gay.

Also, keep in mind that LeBron James and Anthony Davis are anything but full-time players these days; plenty of forward depth will be needed for Darvin Ham to rely on.

Dallas Mavericks

The Mavs could still be looking for a little depth in the forward department, and adding a solid veteran like Gay would be a good move. They've already brought in Grant Williams this offseason on a sign-and-trade with Boston and re-signed Dwight Powell. But a little more veteran help up front off the bench couldn't hurt.

Other teams Scotto mentions as possibly interested in Gay include the New Orleans Pelicans and Chicago Bulls.
