NBA Rumors: Blake Griffin Linked To One Familiar Team In Free Agency

A six-time All-Star, 34-year-old Blake Griffin is far from his prime these days, and his free agency hasn't been rife with interested teams thus far. But he is being tied to one familiar destination.

Boston Celtics beat reporter Bobby Manning says a reunion with the C's could be in order for the power forward.

I’ve heard the door remains opens for his return despite the distance from family and his home on the west coast. Given that he mulled his options until October last year, it’s worth assuming he’ll follow a similarly deliberative process this summer, and his veteran status allows the team to sign him for a second-year salary on the cap sheet — $2-million this year.

Griffin wasn't a huge contributor for the Celtics last season, but with his measly 14 minutes per game, he was productive, especially on the glass and as a distributor. While he averaged 4.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists overall, his per-36 minutes numbers work out to a robust 9.8 boards, 10.8 points and 3.9 dimes. In other words, he still filled a role at the back end of the rotation.

Besides, the Celtics are down a veteran presence and leadership voice with Marcus Smart departed. Griffin, the 13-year veteran, can certainly help in that regard.

For his career, Griffin still holds marks off 21.4 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists.

While a return to the West Coast, where he spent the prime of his career with the Los Angeles Clippers, can't be ruled out, a reunion in Boston is definitely still a possibility as well.
