NBA Rumors: 3 Potential Trade Destinations For Russell Westbrook

Here we go again. Russell Westbrook had seemed to find the right place for him after landing with the Los Angeles Clippers late last season after a tumultuous run with the LA Lakers. So much so that the Clippers re-signed him in free agency this past summer.

Westbrook got off to a great start with the Clips this season, but things have tanked since the acquisition of James Harden. Russ volunteered to move to the bench so the Beard could run the ship with the starters, but Westbrook has been struggling, averaging just 8.5 points in his last six games, with 4.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists, well down even from his 15.2 points, 7.8 boards, and 7.0 helpers before the Harden trade.

It seems like the 9-time All-Star has become redundant in LA with Harden around, and that a trade could certainly be in the offing.

Let's have a look at 3 teams that would make sense as landing spots for Russ, if the Clippers were to deal him:

Miami Heat

This is a team that's had troubles at the point guard spot for a few seasons now. The aging Kyle Lowry hasn't been the answer they'd hoped for, and they lost Gabe Vincent in free agency. Westbrook, whose shooting and scoring has been in question in recent seasons, would be a nice fit next to supreme shooter Tyler Herro once he returns from injury (which could be soon).

Chicago Bulls

Westbrook was linked to the Bulls as a free agent this past summer, as the team is still reeling over the loss of Lonzo Ball for yet another entire season. Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu have run the point for Chicago thus far this year, but Westbrook would be a vast improvement in playmaking.

San Antonio Spurs

As Anthony Amador of Game 7 notes, if there's one NBA head coach out there who still loves Westbrook and what he brings to the court, it's Gregg Popovich. Jeremy Sochan, a power forward by nature, has been jammed into the point guard hole for the Spurs so far, and while he's done a nice job, wouldn't it be something to see Westbrook offering some veteran experience and playmaking for Victor Wembanyama?
