DeMar DeRozan On His Way Out of Sacramento

It wasn't quite the scenario he had envisioned when he agreed to go to Sacramento. Now, after two disappointing seasons for the Kings, six-time All-Star DeMar DeRozan's days in SacTown are numbered. In fact, insider Jake Fischer reports that a buyout is imminent.

DeRozan is owed $25.7 million under his deal for next season, but with only $10 million guaranteed, the decision for the Kings is made that much easier. They will waive and stretch that $10M over three years.

DeMar will then be free to find himself a deal with any team in the league. This is something that the 17-year veteran has been hoping for, as reported by Kelly Iko on Friday.

“Kings wing DeMar DeRozan... is hoping to accelerate his exit, either by being waived and testing the open market or being traded sooner rather than later, sources say.”

DeRozan would be the top scorer remaining in free agency if he is bought out

The 36-year-old will be a big boost to the free agent market for teams looking for a reliable scorer. He's also able to distribute the ball to create for others. He doesn't do much else, however, as neither stretching the floor with threes nor defense are fortes for DeRozan. But if you're looking for a guy to hit mid-range jumpers with the best of them, DD is your man.

Although his scoring average dipped to 18.3 ppg this past season, DeRozan had topped the 20-point mark, usually comfortably, for the previous 12 seasons. For his career, the 36-year-old averages 21.1 points per game, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.1 assists.

He might forever be known, however, as the player the Toronto Raptors traded away to land Kawhi Leonard (the first time, in 2018), to set them up for their first NBA championship. DeRozan has never been able to come close to sniffing a title since he left Toronto.
