Houston Rockets To Chase Huge Star This Offseason On Trade Market

The Houston Rockets made a big splash last offseason in their efforts to speed up their ascension back into contention. They signed free agents Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks, and they've also got Steven Adams coming in this season. But the latest word is that they're out to make another huge move this summer, with interest in Donovan Mitchell.

Houston has a No. 3 pick in this June Draft to dangle in trade talks, and, as noted by Kelly Iko of The Athletic, they indeed are "flush with young talent and draft capital that could appeal to teams with elite talent in flux".

Whether Mitchell is "in flux" or not remains to be seen. He is still the property of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and they can sign him to a massive extension this summer before he heads into the final year of his current contract. There has been some recent talk that he wants to stay in Cleveland, but we'll believe that when we see it.

The Cavs suffered another early playoff exit, and he may be starting to get frustrated that the team can't get to the next level. The Rockets have been monitoring his situation for months, according to league sources.

Plenty of teams will come calling on the Cavs to try to pry Spida loose in a trade, if he doesn't sign on the extension dotted line soon. The Rockets will certainly be one of them.
