NBA Trade Rumors: Lakers & Cavaliers Linked In Proposed Blockbuster

Word is starting to make the rounds about the possibility of Donovan Mitchell deciding to sign an extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers this summer. And if that happens, reports Shams Charania and others, the agent for Cavs point guard Darius Garland will be asking for a trade for his client, as he doesn't feel there's enough touches for the two of them in the same backcourt.

If that's the case, we have a blockbuster trade proposal for Garland offered by ESPN's NBA insider Bobby Marks, that would look like this:

LA Lakers Receive:

  • Darius Garland
Cleveland Cavaliers Receive:
  • Austin Reaves
  • Rui Hachimura

To be clear, Marks suggests that those players would be the centrepiece of the trade and others could also be involved.

With D'Angelo Russell likely headed off in free agency, Garland would provide a dynamic ballhandler and distributor for LeBron James and Anthony Davis, not to mention another three-point threat (38.4% career) to open up space for the two big men.

For the Cavs, says Marks, “Reaves’ shooting skills would complement Donovan Mitchell, and Hachimura gives the Cavaliers depth in the frontcourt if they look to trade Jarrett Allen.”

One other factor that makes a deal like this realistic is the fact that Garland's agent is Rich Paul, also, not coincidentally, and quite infamously, LeBron & AD's agent.
