Celtics Rumors: Insider Reports That Celtics To Hit Trade Market This Summer
The Boston Celtics are a little busy at the moment, with their eyes on the prize of trying to nab back-to-back NBA championships. They just advanced to the second round after a five-game victory over the Orlando Magic. But insider Shams Charania is reporting that the Celtics will be hitting the trade market this summer, no matter the results of the rest of these playoffs.
Charania appeared on the Pat McAfee Show on Thursday, and he told the crew that with their league-record salary structure, Boston will need to cut down on the record spending, and changes are coming.
"The rest of the league is bracing for some level of change to the Celtics roster this offseason..

I can tell you, the rest of the league is bracing for some level of change to come to the Celtics roster this offseason. Sources have been telling me for weeks now that the Celtics will be exploring trade options in the offseason. This iteration is just not going to be sustainable for this team. And no one around the organization, from players to staffers, would be surprised if there are changes coming to this roster.
Shams says if the Celtics stayed intact with the current roster next season, their salary tab would be over $500 million. "That would be a league history amount," he added, noting that they'd have a record five players making at least $28 million next year if changes aren't forthcoming.
With Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown both topping the $50M mark next season, Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday over $30M, and Derrick White jumping up to the $28M mark, something has to give.
It's been money well spent thus far for Boston, as they have one NBA title in hand, and will face the winner of the New York Knicks/Detroit Pistons series in the second round, as they attempt to repeat.
