Intriguing Warriors Rumor Has Jonathan Kuminga Landing With Chicago Bulls
With several reports having the Golden State Warriors looking to move on from restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga this offseason, sign-and-trade rumors are flourishing. According to insider Brett Siegel of Clutch Points, the Chicago Bulls are one of the favorites to land the former 7th overall pick from the Warriors.
Taking that to the next level, Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report has proposed a sign-and-trade that sees a few notable names change hands, that would land Kuminga in the Windy City:
Chicago Bulls receive:
- Jonathan Kuminga (via sign-and-trade)
Golden State Warriors receive:
- Nikola Vučević
- Lonzo Ball
- 2029 top-5 protected first-round pick
Kuminga's career in Golden State was a rollercoaster ride, reaching the plummeting depths near the end of this past regular season and into the playoffs, when he fell out of the team's rotation. But it finished on a high, when he was handed scoring responsibilities in the Warriors' final four playoff games without Steph Curry in the lineup. Kuminga responded by averaging close to 25 points per game.
As noted by Adam Taylor in heavy.com, "Kuminga would add some much-needed athleticism to (Bulls coach) Billy Donovan’s rotation. He ... also comes with legitimate postseason experience, which could pay dividends further down the road".
As the Bulls look to rebuild for the future, Kuminga could be a big step in the right direction.
Warriors would get 2-time All-Star in proposed trade package for Kuminga
As for the Warriors, they would get the scoring center that they've needed in Vucevic. The two-time All-Star has averaged at least 17.6 points and 10 rebounds in each of the last seven seasons, with 18.5 ppg this year with a career-best 40.2% from long distance.
Ball, whom the Bulls surprisingly signed to a two-year, $20 million extension this past season despite having missed the past three years with a knee injury, would provide a solid backup at the point for Golden State—IF he can stay healthy.
This hypothetical deal would be a strong move for the Dubs, as they attempt to furnish Curry and Jimmy Butler with a surrounding cast that could give them another strong chance at title contention.
