NBA Rumors: 2 Lakers Big Men Who Won't Be Back Next Season

The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly planning to let veterans Markieff Morris and Alex Len walk in the 2025 free agency period as they look to revamp their roster. Neither player made a significant impact after joining the team late in the season, making their departure unsurprising.

Alex Len’s Limited Role

Acquired at the trade deadline for frontcourt depth, the 7-foot center appeared in just 10 games, averaging 2.2 points and 3.1 rebounds on 45.5% shooting. Despite the Lakers’ struggles with size—especially in their playoff loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves—Len never secured a consistent role, falling behind Jaxson Hayes in the rotation.

While his height addressed a need, his lack of mobility and offensive versatility kept him out of crucial moments, making a return unlikely.

Markieff Morris’ Diminished Impact

The 35-year-old forward, who rejoined the Lakers in the Luka Dončić-Anthony Davis trade, played only eight games, contributing 5.5 points and 1.9 rebounds. His value came more from veteran leadership than on-court production, but with the team prioritizing youth and athleticism, Morris isn’t expected to be re-signed.

Who Stays?

While Morris and Len are on their way out, the Lakers are likely to retain several other players:

  • Jaxson Hayes (24) – A young, athletic big who could return as a backup.
  • Dorian Finney-Smith (player option) – A key 3-and-D wing and a top retention priority.
  • Jordan Goodwin (team option) – Showed promise as a defensive guard on a cost-effective deal.
  • LeBron James (player option) – Expected to opt out and re-sign on a new contract.

As the Lakers aim to bolster their frontcourt and build around LeBron and Luka, Morris and Len appear to be the first casualties of their offseason adjustments.
