NBA Rumors: Jaylen Brown Joins Wembanyama in San Antonio In Wild Trade Proposal

Could the Celtics trade Jaylen Brown to the Spurs in this blockbuster mock deal?

The talk continues to swirl around the Boston Celtics after the devastating news they got on Jayson Tatum earlier this month, in their desperate need to get under the second apron this offseason. Their payroll, as is, will be in the $500 million range, and they are looking at anything and everything as a way to reduce it.

But does that even include trading Jaylen Brown? Gautam Varier of Fadeaway World has come up with a blockbuster proposal that would send the 2024 Finals MVP to the San Antonio Spurs, that, he says, is a deal "the Celtics cannot refuse."

It would look like this:

San Antonio Spurs Receive

  • Jaylen Brown

Boston Celtics Receive
  • Devin Vassell
  • Stephon Castle
  • Jeremy Sochan
  • No. 2 Pick in 2025 Draft
  • 2027 first-round pick
  • 2030 first-round pick

That would be an insane haul for the Celtics. Vassell is a legitimate scoring wing, Castle is the 2025 NBA Rookie of the Year, and the second overall pick in this year's Draft will be a legit player as well. Throw in a couple more first-rounders and a versatile power forward in Sochan, and that would set the Celtics up for years to come.

For San Antonio, they'd have Brown, French sensation Victor Wembanyama, and star point guard De'Aaron Fox — a threesome that would be tough to beat. Their depth would be seriously diminished, though they'd still have Keldon Johnson–a 22 ppg scorer just two years ago–and Harrison Barnes.

It seems that the bigger question in this hypothetical scenario is not 'would the Celtics do it?', but would the Spurs?

This isn't the first mock Jaylen Brown trade that's been out there, as another recent one had him landing not far from Boston, within the Atlantic Division.
