Timberwolves Offseason: Only 2 Untouchables Named as Team Looks to Make Moves
The Minnesota Timberwolves were thoroughly dismantled by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals, losing Game 5 by 30 points. They had a nice run, certainly, to get that far, but the T-Wolves won't be standing pat this summer.
Some of their roster changes may be out of their hands, as defensive whiz Nickeil Alexander-Walker is an unrestricted free agent. Naz Reid, last year's Sixth Man of the Year, who had an even better season this time around, has a player option for $15 million that he will most certainly opt out of, becoming an in-demand UFA.
In addition, Julius Randle also has a player option, at $30 million. The T-Wolves almost have their hands tied, and need to bring Randle back, one way or another, after giving up Karl Anthony-Towns for him.
But whatever the Timberwolves do this summer, we can be certain of just one thing—no, make that two. Per Eddie Bitar in Fadeaway World, only two T-Wolves are "untouchables" this offseason: Anthony Edwards (obviously), and Jaden McDaniels. Everything—and everyone—else is on the table.
McDaniels, the All-NBA Defensive Team member from last year, improved across the board in 2024-25, and with four more seasons to run on a 5-year deal that pays him a $27 million AAV, he isn't going anywhere.
But that does leave some big names that could—if the return is right—be moved, including Rudy Gobert, Donte Vincenzo, and even Randle, depending on how his player option and/or extension shakes out.
More ball-handling will be a priority in any trades or signings, per head coach Chris Finch.
