Kevin Durant Trade Rumors: 3 'Sleeper' Teams That Could Be In On Durant

3 sleeper teams that could be in on Durant

We've all heard the marquee team names that are in on trying to trade for Kevin Durant this summer. From the San Antonio Spurs to the Miami Heat to the New York Knicks, there are some potentially solid contenders looking for KD to take them over the top.

But according to Sam Quinn of CBS Sports, the following three 'Wild Cards' are sleeper teams that make for a good fit for Durant and could get in on the  Sweepstakes.

Memphis Grizzlies

The Grizz made it through the Play-In this season, but lost in the first round quickly to the Oklahoma City Thunder in four straight games, including a 51-point loss. With a point guard in Ja Morant and a big man in the middle in Jaren Jackson Jr. that are legit stars, Durant would be a great complement to combine with them to take this team from the periphery of the playoff picture to being right in the mix.

Quinn notes, however, that KD reportedly turned down an option to go to the Grizzlies after they made an offer to the Phoenix Suns at the trade deadline. Whether he'd keep to that stance this summer is unknown.

Detroit Pistons

The Pistons made a huge jump into becoming a legitimate playoff team this past season. Adding Durant to lead the way for a young core that features superstar-in-the-making Cade Cunningham plus a number of other exciting young stars could drive the Motor City into being a top team in the Eastern Conference.

LA Clippers

The Clips had an excellent season, with 50 wins, even though Kawhi Leonard was only able to play 37 games. They weren't really that far away from advancing in the playoffs, as they took the Denver Nuggets to seven games in the first round. Adding KD to a Kawhi-James Harden-Ivica Zubac core would make the Clippers a tough out next season.

But there's a problem with this scenario, as Quinn points out:

"Would Durant ever want to play with James Harden again? That's a possible holdup here. The two seemingly didn't break up in Brooklyn on the best terms".

In summary, as Quinn says, "Durant, thanks to that expiring contract as well as his often moody demeanor, has quite a bit of say here. If he doesn't want to go somewhere, he can probably squash just about any deal."
