NBA Trade Rumors: 14-Player Blockbuster Proposal Nets Raptors a Superstar & Lakers A Center
It's expected to be an all-out trading frenzy this offseason in the NBA, and pundits and analysts around the league are having a field day with proposed deals that could make sense.
The latest comes to us from Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report, whose insane 4-team, 14-player blockbuster would send Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Toronto Raptors, while filling the gaping hole at center on the LA Lakers.
Toronto Raptors get:
- Giannis Antetokounmpo (from Bucks)
- Jalen Smith (from Bulls)
- Jevon Carter (from Bulls)
Milwaukee Bucks get:
- RJ Barrett (from Raptors)
- Gradey Dick (from Raptors)
- Chris Boucher (sign-and-trade from Raptors)
- Ja'Kobe Walter (from Raptors)
- Gabe Vincent (from Lakers)
- 2025 No. 9 (this and the following picks are all from Raptors)
- 2026 first-round swap rights
- 2026 Lakers second-rounder
- 2027 first-round pick
- 2028 first-round swap rights
- 2029 first-round pick
- 2030 first-round swap rights
- 2031 first-round pick
- 2032 first-round swap rights (top-five protected for the Raptors)
Los Angeles Lakers get:
- Jakob Poeltl (from Raptors)
- Lonzo Ball (from Bulls)
Chicago Bulls get:
- Dalton Knecht (from Lakers)
- Jarred Vanderbilt (from Lakers)
- Shake Milton (from Lakers)
- AJ Lawson (from Raptors)
- $10 million trade exception (Ball)
- $9 million trade exception (Smith)
- $1.5 million trade exception (Carter)
For the Raptors, they finally unite Masai Ujiri and Antetokounmpo, who have a long relationship going back to Giannis's youth. And they take another crack at bringing in a superstar to try to cash in on a championship, as they did in 2018-19 with Kawhi Leonard.
But it's insanely costly for Toronto, as they would lose a massive part of their rotation, starting center Poeltl and power forward Barrett, along with their young gunner, Gradey Dick, and another promising youngster in Ja'Kobe Walter. Not to mention FOUR first-round picks and other pick swaps. They'd still have Scottie Barnes, Immanuel Quickley and Brandon Ingram to surround Giannis with.
The Bucks, with this hypothetical deal, would get to completely remake their team, with two instant starters in Barrett and Dick, plus a young upstart in Walter, and a placeholder point guard from the Lakers in Vincent. But most importantly, those four firsts+++.
The Lakers, for their part in this, get the starting center they've needed so badly since trading Anthony Davis. "Respectfully to Jaxson Hayes, the Lakers went into the postseason without an established starting center," writes Pincus. Poeltl fills that need.
Lonzo Ball would be returning to the Lakers, who originally drafted him with the 2nd overall pick in 2017. He would bring them "size, defensive and offensive acceleration off the bench as a high-potential role player alongside Dončić."
The Bulls, for their part in this, replace Ball, Carter and Smith with a defensive presence on the wing in Vanderbilt, as well as a 2024 first-rounder in Knecht.
This is a wild deal, and an extremely costly one for the Raptors, who would really have to pay up in this scenario to get Giannis.
