In addition to Westbrook, Sam Amick writes in The Athletic that the Kings are also considering fellow free agent Tyus Jones as an option.
The Kings, who once had two of the best young point guards in the NBA in their backcourt at the same time in Tyrese Haliburton and De'Aaron Fox, have since traded both of them, and are now scrambling to fill their lead guard role.
What point guards have the Sacramento Kings looked at this summer?
They have considered, but eventually decided against, other options at the point, including Jrue Holiday and Trae Young. Holiday has since been dealt to Portland. As for Young, "there was a push among some power-brokers for Sacramento to go after Atlanta’s Trae Young," writes Amick, "but league sources say the Kings didn’t have interest because of his style of play (offense-first) and cost ($95 million owed for two more seasons). "
Westbrook finished this past season averaging 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.1 assists while splitting his time between starting and coming off the bench for the Nuggets. He averaged 28 minutes per game.
And overall, writes Amick, "Beyond the point guard vacancy, league sources say the Kings are open for business when it comes to discussing the various possibilities with their roster."
