Breaking NBA Signing: Miami Heat Re-Sign Hard Luck Jru Smith to Multi-Year Deal

Despite missing most of the last two seasons with a couple of devastating injuries, Dru Smith has impressed the Miami Heat enough, even in very limited time, to have now earned himself a new three-year extension worth $7.9 million.

Smith was only able to play in 14 games last season, but he averaged over 19 minutes a night off the bench in those contests, playing tremendous on-ball defense on the perimeter, and averaged 6.2 points and 1.5 steals, while hitting on 51% FG and 53% from three-point range. He's a favorite of head coach Erik Spoelstra.

The 27-year-old came into the league as an undrafted free agent in 2022, but has suffered a couple of devastating injuries. He had a torn ACL in his right knee in 2023-24 that held him to just nine games played, then after recovering and earning himself some big minutes in December of last year, his other leg gave out, with a torn Achilles.

But all of his hard work in the Heat's development program has paid off for the 6'3" guard, with this three-year deal.
