Insider Addresses Question, 'Will Mitchell Robinson Finish The Year As a Knick?'

Mitchell Robinson, coming off another injury-riddled regular season (and superb playoff run) for the New York Knicks, is eligibile for an extension. He's entering the final year of a 4-year deal that will pay him $12.9 million.

His name has been floated in trade rumors at times over the past year, but with his scarcity of availability, teams are obviously reticent.

Robinson played just 17 games last season and 31 the year before. It's been an ongoing pattern.

James Edwards III of The Athletic addressed the question, 'Will Mitchell Robinson Finish The Year As a Knick?' thusly:

The Knicks know Robinson better than anyone, and he’s been unable to stay on the court due to various injuries. I’ve gotten the sense that New York would be willing to sign Robinson to a team-friendly extension that covers them in the event he continues to get hurt.

On the flip side, I’m sure Robinson points to his performances in the postseason and believes he can get one more nice deal from the Knicks or someone else if he’s able to stay healthy in a contract year.

He's averaged only 48 games a season during his nine-year NBA career, all in The Big Apple. But his Per-36-Minutes numbers are so tantalizing: 11.7 points, 11.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocked shots per game.

So what if he finally stays healthy this season, at least up till the trade deadline in February? The Knicks would be facing a huge decision:

"(Would) the Knicks capitalize on his play and expiring contract and trade him then? Would New York keep him to continue their title chase, not break up the continuity and risk losing him in free agency?" writes Edwards III.

It might sound crazy to say, but with two vastly differing directions this could veer in, what happens with Robinson could go a long way to determining the outcome of this Knicks season.
