Breaking: Miami Heat Star Tyler Herro Undergoes Surgery, To Miss Start of Season

Tyler Herro, Miami Heat guard

Not the best news for the Miami Heat as they get set for training camp in the next week or two. Top scorer Tyler Herro is undergoing surgery on Friday, and will miss the start of the 2025-26 season. He's expected to be out for about eight weeks, taking us into the second half of November.

The procedure will be to correct an impingement in his left foot and ankle. It's been bothering him for a couple of months.

So why wait until just before the start of camp to go under the knife? According to reports, Herro received PRP and cortisone injections in recent weeks in an attempt to avoid surgery, but the discomfort never went away. Finally, surgery was recommended as the only option to correct the problem.

After the trading of Jimmy Butler last season, Herro became the unquestioned go-to man on offense for the Heat. He boosted his scoring by over three points a game, to finish at 23.9 ppg, to go along with another career high with 5.5 assists.

He earned his first All-Star nod, and started in 77 games. The Heat were 0-5 without Herro in the lineup last season.

This isn't the 25-year-old's first battle with injury troubles, however, as he played only 42 games in the 2023-24 season due to ankle and foot issues, and suffered a broken right hand in the 2023 playoffs. He also had left foot issues in the 2021-22 season, and a right ankle sprain in '22 as well.
