NBA Signing: NY Knicks Add Former Rookie of Year & Sixth Man Award Winner

One of the top remaining free agents on the NBA's open market has decided to hook up with the New York Knicks. Malcolm Brogdon has agreed to a one-year deal.

It's a non-guaranteed veteran's minimum for Brogdon, who joins a hefty backcourt rotation that features Jalen Brunson and Mikal Bridges as the starters, along with Miles McBride and newly-acquired Jordan Clarkson off the bench.

Because the contract is non-guaranteed, according to a report by Ian Begley of SNY, Brogdon will have to battle it out for the final Knicks' roster spot going into the season. Others vying for the spot include Landry Shamet and Garrison Mathews. The Knicks can only carry one of them due to second apron issues.

Some have questioned whether this could lead to a trade to clear some roster space.

Brogdon has always been a solid contributor as a combo guard, often off the bench, but he has had trouble staying on the court throughout his nine-year career due to a wide assortment of injuries. He's played in only 61% of his teams' games, just 388 of a possible 637.

Last year with the Wiz, he averaged 12.7 points, 4.1 assists and 3.8 rebounds in 24 games. However, in a familiar story, an injury, in this case an ankle sprain, ended his season after the All-Star break.

In his career, Brogdon, 33, has averaged 15.3 points, 4.7 assists and 4.1 rebounds while shooting 38.8% from long range.
