NBA Trade Rumors: Pistons Add All-Star Scorer Tyler Herro in Proposed Trade

The Detroit Pistons rose from the dead last season. After five years of rolling out one of the worst records in basketball each and every season, new head coach JB Bickerstaff took the team to a stunning 6th place seed in the Eastern Conference last year, and the team is ready for more.

Despite their nifty turnaround, scoring was still a chore for the Pistons, aside from breakthrough superstar Cade Cunningham and his 26.1 points per game. Another formidable offensive force would do wonders to elevate Detroit to the next level.

Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report has proposed a trade that would drive All-Star scorer Tyler Herro to the Motor City. His self-described "realistic blockbuster" would look like this:

Detroit Pistons receive:

  • Tyler Herro
  • Nikola Jović

Miami Heat receive:
  • Tobias Harris
  • Ron Holland II
  • 2026 first-round pick (lottery-protected)
  • 2030 first-round pick
  • 2031 first-round pick swap (top-three protected)

For Detroit, Herro brings a legit scorer to take the heat off Cunningham. He's averaged over 20 points for four straight seasons with the Heat, including an All-Star 23.9 points per game in 2024-25. He's also a strong contributor as a playmaker, with 5.5 assists last year, and 5.2 rebounds. All the while holding a 38.2% mark from three-point land for his career.

As Buckley notes, when teams focus all their defensive energy on stopping Cunningham (as the Knicks did in the playoffs), the Pistons are stalled.

"That will be the same approach opponents take until the Pistons find a viable threat to slot alongside Cunningham."

Herro could come to the rescue if this deal came to fruition.

As for the Heat, a rebuild is necessary, as the Herro-Bam Adebayo combo, now that Jimmy Butler is gone, is just not enough to get them to the promised land. They weren't able to bring in a third big-time star as they'd hoped this summer, so gaining all sorts of draft capital now could be the way to go.

"The Heat have essentially acknowledged they need more. After the season wrapped, team president Pat Riley told reporters: 'There's no doubt there has to be some change,'" wrote Buckley. "The wise move, then, would be to cash in the trade chips now in hopes of hitting it big later."

The pieces they'd gain in this deal, and the expiring $26.6 million contract of Tobias Harris, would give them a ton of flexibility next summer.
