Klay Thompson Opens Up About 'Friction' on Title-Winning Warriors

Klay Thompson has been an ex-Golden State Warrior for over a year now, but he's opening up more on the friction that existed during the Dubs' title-winning run.

With four NBA championships, including three in four years from 2015 to 2018, you'd think life was all a bowl of cherries for the team. But we saw the turbulent relationship between Draymond Green and Kevin Durant (and Draymond Green and Jordan Poole). And Thompson told LA Lakers legend Michael Cooper (a former multi-time champion himself) on his podcast, "Showtime With Coop," that there were other issues as well.

"There's gonna be friction... For us, there (were) a lot of scuffles," Thompson said. "There have been a lot of bad words said and feelings hurt. But at the end of the day, we know we just want to win. When you raise a banner, you can look past all the stuff you went through as brothers. There were times there would be friction—whether it be Draymond and I, or Steph (Curry) and I, or Coach (Steve Kerr) and I. It's just a part of it. And you grow from it. You be man enough to leave that on the court and be a professional about it."

Thompson played his first season outside of San Francisco this past year, signing a free agent deal last summer with the Dallas Mavericks after the Warriors decided to go in a different direction. He averaged a 13-year low 14.0 points per game with the Mavs, in 27.3 minutes a night. He still shot 39% from beyond the arc, his signature talent.

Thompson was one-half of the legendary Splash Brothers, along with Curry, that led the Warriors to that dynasty.

Of all the "friction" that existed though, the two most visible incidents remain the on-court playoff argument between Green & Durant in 2017...

And the infamous Draymond punch to Jordan Poole's face in practice in 2022...
