Nikola Jokic Makes Big Statement on His Nuggets Future

With superstars like Kevin Durant and Jimmy Butler changing teams in recent months, and the seemingly real possibility of Giannis Antetokounmpo someday leaving Milwaukee, nothing is guaranteed in the NBA. But Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic has made it clear on Media Day that his intention is to stay with the team for the entirety of his career.

Jokic was asked about the potential of a new max extension coming his way next summer, and whether he intended to sign it:

“My plan is to be a Nugget forever.”

The three-time MVP, Jokic still has two years to run (including this coming season) on his current max deal, which was for 5 years, $276 million. He'll be eligible for another max extension, at a much larger number, after the season.

Jokic led the Nuggets to the NBA championship in 2023, winning the Finals MVP. His three regular-season MVPs came in 2021, '22, and '24, and he hasn't finished lower than 2nd in the voting in each of the last five years.

He begins the 2025-26 season as the likely favorite to win the award yet again.

Last year, Jokic averaged a triple-double for the first time in his illustrious career, with a personal best 29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds and 10.2 assists.
