NBA Trade Rumors: Celtics' Derrick White is the Perfect Warriors Trade Target
The Boston Celtics got themselves under the onerous second apron by shipping out Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday this past summer. But are they still interested in cost-cutting? With four years to run on his contract, at $118 million ($29.5M AAV), the Celts could look to get themselves under the first apron (they're only $4M over) by unloading Derrick White in the right deal.
And if that's the case, he'd be the perfect trade target for the Golden State Warriors, as noted by Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report.
"White would... be the perfect backcourt partner for a 38-year-old (Steph) Curry who probably isn't going to be giving All-Defensive efforts on a nightly basis at this stage of his career. White is still one of the most efficient multi-positional defenders in the NBA and perhaps the best shot-blocking guard we've seen since Dwyane Wade."
He's been named to the All-NBA Defensive Second Team twice, and has garnered Top 10 Defensive Player of the Year votes the past two seasons.
But White is no slouch on offense either. The 31-year-old averaged 16.4 points per game last season, with 4.8 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.1 blocked shots.
And as the second-oldest team in the league (Al Horford, 39, Curry, 37, Jimmy Butler, 36, and Draymond Green, 35), White, at 31, would help with that as well. "(He) would look like a spring chicken alongside (those guys)."
White would be as good an addition as this team could make in their bid to get Curry another good run at a championship before the window closes.
