NBA Trade Rumors: DeMar DeRozan Joins Kawhi Leonard in LA in Proposed Trade

It was the summer of 2018 when the NBA trade that would forever change the course of history for one franchise took place. The Toronto Raptors traded their longtime leading scorer and beloved face of the franchise DeMar DeRozan, in a package in exchange for superstar Kawhi Leonard, who wanted out of San Antonio.

Of course, the result was a Kawhi-led NBA championship the next spring for the Toronto Raptors, and a broken heart for DeRozan who would never come close to a championship in his travels since then.

But what if a stunning trade could bring DeMar and Kawhi together on the same team? Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report has proposed the following deal that would send DeRozan to the LA Clippers.

LA Clippers receive:

  • DeMar DeRozan

Sacramento Kings receive:
  • Bogdan Bogdanović
  • Derrick Jones Jr.

This hypothetical deal would allow DeRozan to join his hometown team, and provide an unprecedented amount of elite midrange shooting for the Clippers, to go along with Kawhi and their new recruit, Bradley Beal.
But of course, both Beal and Kawhi are bound to spend big swaths of the season on the injured list, allowing DeRozan to get his shots at a voluminous amount.

And as Bailey notes, "when sharing the floor with Kawhi Leonard, James Harden and another starter or two, he'd have the opportunity to attack defenses scrambled by the superstars."

As for the Kings, they get three-point shooting in Bogdanovic that DeRozan has never provided, plus a solid versatile defender in Jones Jr., also something that is not a feature of DeRozan's game.
