Free Agent Precious Achiuwa Linked to Western Conf. Team

He was waived by the Miami Heat before the regular season, and veteran big man Precious Achiuwa has been waiting for a call from another NBA team ever since. It sounds like the Sacramento Kings may be ready to make that call.

According to insider Jake Fischer, the Kings are taking a serious look at bringing in the former New York Knicks and Toronto Raptors bench big. The move comes after Achiuwa changed agencies last week.

The 26 year old began his career in 2020-21 as a first-round pick for the Miami Heat. He got minimal court time, however, to show his wares, playing just 12 minutes a game. He was traded after that season to the Raptors as part of the Kyle Lowry sign and trade, where he had a much bigger role, nearly doubling his minutes, and flashing some exciting energy off the bench, averaging about nine points and six rebounds in his two full seasons in Toronto.

Achiuwa was then traded by the Raptors to the Knicks as part of the OG Anunoby deal, and he continued to be a decent piece off the bench.

But as a free agent after the 2024-25 season, the Knicks opted not to bring him back. He signed a training camp deal this fall with his original team in Miami, but he didn’t break camp with the club.

BasketNews had reported that the Nigerian was being pursued by “several” EuroLeague teams, but Sacramento might just be giving Achiuwa another shot at the NBA.

If the Kings do come to an agreement with him, reports are that Issac Jones may be waived. Achiuwa would add some nice depth to the team’s big man rotation.
