NBA Trade Rumor: Warriors' Jonathan Kuminga Heads To Brooklyn Nets in Proposed Deal

Jonathan Kuminga spent the summer in a heated deadlock with Golden State Warriors management over his contract, and his future with the team. The RFA eventually accepted a two-year, $48.5 million contract, but it allows him to be traded as of January 15th. And many observers around the league feel that's exactly what will happen.

With Kuminga's days in Golden State apparently numbered, we take a look at a proposed trade that would move him to the Brooklyn Nets, as put forth by Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report:

Brooklyn Nets receive:

  • Jonathan Kuminga
  • Moses Moody
  • Buddy Hield
  • 2026 first-round pick (top-four protected)
  • 2028 first-round pick swap

Golden State Warriors receive:
  • Michael Porter Jr.

It's been sad to see Porter Jr., who was a key member of the Denver Nuggets NBA title run in 2023 languishing with the woeful Nets. Yes, he's averaging a career-high 24 points per game, but it's all quite meaningless on a 3-16 team. He would be a tremendous addition to the Warriors, giving them a legitimate third option after Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler, and greatly enhancing their potential for a long playoff run.

Porter would help spread the floor, and has shown his willingness and effectiveness playing behind two huge stars, having operated behind the glare of Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray all those years in Denver.

As for the Nets, they get a couple of young players with potential big upside in Kuminga as well as Moody, while also pulling in a nice first-rounder in next year's draft. Kuminga would get a chance to take on the bigger role he hasn't been able to get from Warriors head coach Steve Kerr.

This one seems like a no-brainer for Brooklyn. For the Warriors, is it too much to give up for Porter Jr.?

Golden State is currently 11-10 going into Sunday's play, in 8th spot in the Western Conference. They're currently 22nd overall in the NBA in scoring, and landing a Porter Jr. would be a big boost to their chances.

Who says no?
