NBA Trade Rumor: 5-Team Blockbuster Sends Anthony Davis to Hawks, Klay Thompson back to Warriors
From all accounts, the Atlanta Hawks are getting more serious in their trade talks with the Dallas Mavericks around Anthony Davis. They have emerged as "the most serious suitor" for AD, says Brett Siegel of Clutch Points.
But while the Hawks want to include Trae Young in this trade, if they really want to swing for the fences, it would have to include many other teams in order to move Young. As we heard earlier this week, the Dallas Mavericks are not interested in Trae Young.
In the 22 games that Trae Young missed earlier this season for the Hawks, they had the 11th-best defensive rating, and were 9th in the NBA in wins. With Young on the floor this season, they are getting outscored by 7.3 points per 100 possessions, and are break-even when he's OFF the floor.
But now we're hearing of a new name from Atlanta that's being discussed in a possible Davis trade.
“The Hawks are heavily pursuing Anthony Davis," said Siegel. "We can confirm that there has been direct communication discussing what both sides want… The piece that has become the focal point in trade talks is Zaccharie Risacher... I’ve been told the Hawks have signaled directly to the Mavs that they would trade [Risacher] to acquire Davis."
Risacher, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, is a prototype 3-and-D wing, with excellent size, smarts, and versatility on defense.
And that leads us to this massive proposed 5-team blockbuster from Siegel:
Atlanta Hawks receive:
- F/C Anthony Davis
- G/F Zach LaVine
- G D'Angelo Russell
- F/C Domantas Sabonis
- F Zaccharie Risacher
- G Luke Kennard
- CLE 2026 1st-round pick (via ATL swap)
- ATL/UTA/CLE 2028 1st-round swap (More favorable of ATL and less favorable of CLE/UTA)
- BOS 2026 2nd-round pick (via ATL)
- G Trae Young
- F Jonathan Kuminga
- F/C Kristaps Porzingis
Golden State Warriors receive:
- C Nic Claxton
- G/F Klay Thompson
- G Keon Ellis
- SAC 2026 2nd round-pick (via SAC)
- G/F Moses Moody
- G Buddy Hield
- C Trayce Jackson-Davis
- GSW 2027 1st-round pick (top-8 protected, via GSW; if not conveyed, becomes 2028 1st-round pick unprotected)
The Mavs get to replace Davis at center with Sabonis, while getting the top young prospect in Risacher, plus a first rounder and a pick swap.
The Kings get the star point guard they've been longing for since losing De'Aaron Fox, and Kuminga, a player who they've had their eye on since the offseason, and have continued to make calls on.
One of the most underrated parts of this wild proposal would be the return of Klay Thompson to Golden State. They've been craving another scorer to complement Steph Curry & Jimmy Butler; why not Steph's former Splash Brother? The Dubs would also get themselves a rim-protector in Claxton, something else they're in need of.
As for the Nets, as with many trade proposals making the rounds this season, they will act as a facilitator, in order to nab themselves a first-round pick.
This is a bold, aggressive and creative proposal; we'll have to keep an eye on how things unfold with only five to six weeks until the trade deadline.
