NBA Trade Rumors: Top 3 Trade Targets For Golden State Warriors
The Golden State Warriors are still looking for a third impact player to go with Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler, if they are to have a shot at a deep run in the playoffs this season. They have been linked to some big names in their attempts to do that.
The Dubs remain under .500, and wallow around in Play-In territory in the Western Conference.
With the help of Dan Favale of Bleacher Report, we take a look at the top 3 trade targets for the Warriors this season to get them over the hump:
Giannis Antetokounmpo
This is the obvious one, but the Warriors aren't the only team the two-time MVP and one-time Finals MVP has been linked to. A big three of Steph, Butler & Giannis would be pretty tough for teams to stop. Steph's deadly shooting would create more space for Giannis to be even more unstoppable himself.
Derrick White
Are the Boston Celtics going to sell off another piece of their '24 championship team? Even with Jayson Tatum out all season after tearing his Achilles in last spring's playoffs, the Celts find themselves in the 4-seed in the wide-open East, just a half-game back of third spot, going into play on Thursday.
But with Tatum now insisting that he'll be coming back before the end of the campaign, trading their perennial defensive player of the year candidate in White might be shooting themselves in the foot.
From Golden State's perspective, White would be a perfect fit. An elite defender to cover for Curry at the defensive end, and another ballhandler to allow him to take a break from those responsibilities at times on the offensive end of the floor.
Trey Murphy III
The Pelicans have the second-worst record in the NBA, and they're going nowhere fast. They could try to move a few sought-after pieces to contending teams, and there's plenty of interest in Murphy. He wouldn't provide the elite defense that the other two on this list would, but he's no slouch at 6'8", and can offer another scoring threat.
"The value he brings as a floor-spacer and off-ball mover makes him a universal fit," writes Favale, and he'd be an ideal piece currently missing from the Warriors roster.
