Proposed Superstar Offer for Giannis Antetokounmpo Would Be One Bucks Would ‘Have To Accept'

The drama continues to surround Giannis Antetokounmpo's future. Teams around the league are readying their best offers to try to land the two-time MVP from the Milwaukee Bucks.

Advanced statistics guru and senior NBA analyst Zach Harper said, on NBA Radio on SiriusXM, that there's one proposed superstar deal, from the Atlanta Hawks, that the Bucks simply couldn't turn down.

It would look like this:

Milwaukee Bucks receive:

  • Trae Young
  • 1st-Round Pick, 2026 (from New Orleans Pelicans)

Atlanta Hawks receive:
  • Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Pelicans' pick, of course, is especially enticing, as they have as good a chance as any team in the league to win the draft lottery and get the first overall selection next June. Harper says this is an offer the Bucks can't refuse:

"If it's Trae Young, AND that pick, you almost HAVE to do it if you're Milwaukee. Because you can win the P.R. of it by saying, 'Hey, we just got an All-NBA player.'

"Remember, they can't tank. They don't have control of their own pick until 2031. It's not like the Bucks can just move Giannis and go get a lottery pick, that's not how this is going to work.

"To have this Pelicans pick land in your lap, if that's the deal... You have to do that. Absolutely."

The one big problem for the Bucks in getting Trae Young, is that he has a player option for next season, and can opt out to become a free agent. That would be just half a season, and done, for Trae in Milwaukee. But with the elite Pelicans pick...?

"Even if Trae walks, you're getting a Top 3 pick in a draft where there are 3 superstars," added Harper.

Darryn Peterson, Cameron Boozer and A.J. Dybantsa are all seen by scouts as franchise-level talents.
