NBA Trade Rumor: Ja Morant Joins Steph Curry & Warriors in Blockbuster Trade Proposal
The Golden State Warriors suffered a massive blow with the torn ACL suffered by Jimmy Butler, ending his 2025-26 campaign. Can the Warriors' season be saved?
Dan Favale of Bleacher Report suggests bringing in another superstar is the only chance, and he has proposed Ja Morant coming to the rescue. His mock trade looks like this:
Golden State Warriors Receive:
- Ja Morant
- Vincent Williams Jr.
Memphis Grizzlies Receive:
- Buddy Hield
- Jonathan Kuminga
- Moses Moody
- 2026 first-round pick (lottery protection through 2027; obligation expires if not conveyed)
For the Warriors, landing Morant gives them another big-time scorer to help out Curry on offense.
"If Morant can actualize even 70% of the player he is supposed to be," writes Favale, "he helps replace the scoring, playmaking, rim pressure and foul-drawing the Warriors are now forfeiting."
He does admit, however, that the defensive problems of a Curry-Morant backcourt would be enormous. But given that offensive firepower, "Golden State shouldn't care," and they'll just have to figure out another trade to bring in a more sizeable defender to help plug that void.
Grizzlies can get what they're looking for in a Morant trade from Warriors
As Favale, notes, NBA insider Marc Stein reported that the Grizzlies were looking for a good young player and a first-round pick in any return in a Morant deal. This proposal fulfills those requirements.
With the Butler injury, Kuminga finally got a reprieve and escaped from head coach Steve Kerr's doghouse for the first time in a month last night, popping for 20 points in a statement game of sorts for teams that are interested in trading for him.
The Grizzlies would get the young, still-promising forward, along with another potential something in young shooting guard Moses Moody, along with a moderate first-round pick in this year's draft (would be no higher than the 15th selection, as Favale suggests it would be lottery-protected).
Would this move make the Dubs a scary proposition in the playoffs?
