Chris Paul Makes Big Decision On His Next Move

It was supposed to be a storybook ending to his career: Chris Paul signed on for the 2025-26 season with the Los Angeles Clippers, the scene of his greatest accomplishments in the NBA, leading the Lob City Clips to seven exciting seasons in the middle of the previous decade.

But it didn't work out so well in his return to the Clippers, and the team sent him home in December, essentially telling him never to come back. A trade to the Toronto Raptors at the deadline was just a formality. He was waived by the Raptors Friday morning, and now has officially announced his retirement after 21 seasons.

He made the announcement on Instagram.

This is it! After 21 years I’m stepping away from basketball. As I write this, it’s hard to really know what to feel, but for once — most people would be surprised — I don’t have the answer lol! But, mostly I’m filled with so much joy and gratitude!

While this chapter of being an ‘NBA player’ is done, the game of basketball will forever be engrained in the DNA of my life.

CP3 will retire without getting that championship ring that he so desired. But his legendary career will certainly see him enter the Basketball Hall of Fame in due time.

He was a 12-time All-Star, and led the NBA in assists five times, and in steals six times, while finishing his illustrious career with averages of 16.8 ppg, 9.2 assists and 2.0 steals per game. He shot 37% from three-point range.

Paul was also an 11-time All-NBA Team member, and a 9-time All-Defensive Team selection.

He was undoubtedly one of the greatest point guards of all-time.

He started his career with the New Orleans/OKC Hornets for six seasons, and after his time in LA, also played for the Houston Rockets, the Phoenix Suns, the OKC Thunder, the Golden State Warriors, and the San Antonio Spurs.
