Star Orlando Magic Player to Demand Trade if Coach Isn't Fired

The Orlando Magic had a disappointing season, finishing in the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference. They'll tip off in the Play-In against the Philadelphia 76ers tomorrow for a chance to claim a guaranteed spot in the playoffs.

But things have gotten so bad around the team between the players and their head coach that one Magic star player, per a report, is threatening to demand a trade if Jamahl Mosley isn't fired at season's end.

Echoing that report from Raheem Palmer of the Ringer, insider Jake Fischer says that no matter how the Magic do in the playoffs (if they get in), Mosley is a dead man walking.

The Magic are “almost certain” to fire their coach, says Fischer.

Mosley just completed his fifth year at the reins of the team, and sports a 189-221 record, with a .469 winning percentage. They lost in the first round of the playoffs in each of the previous two seasons. The Magic finished with 45 wins in this campaign, and they'll need to get a 46th, either in the 7th/8th seed Play-In game tomorrow, or in the 8th vs. 9th/10th winner the next day, if they're to make it into the playoffs proper this year.

The you-know-what really hit the fan a couple of weeks back, when Orlando was utterly embarrassed with a franchise-record 52-point loss to the shorthanded Toronto Raptors. “I’ve got to be able to do a better job of preparing them for what they were going to see tonight,” Mosley said after the 139-87 trouncing.

Mosley was taking some serious heat even before that lopsided loss, and it's been a lot worse ever since.

He placed second in the Head Coach Hot Seat Ranking by HoopsHype a few weeks back. And No. 1 on that list, Doc Rivers, has already been fired.

From today's reports, it sounds like it's only a matter of time for Mosely.
