3 Milwaukee Bucks Who Won't Be Back Next Season
Doc Rivers is already out the door, but the changes won't end there for the Milwaukee Bucks this offseason. The team has been in a free fall since their 2021 NBA championship:
- 2022: Lost in 2nd Rd. of playoffs
- 2023: Lost in 1st Rd. of playoffs
- 2024: Lost in 1st Rd. of playoffs
- 2025: Lost in 1st Rd. of playoffs
- 2026: 11th seed in East, OUT of playoffs
Bobby Portis
The other last remaining member of the '21 champs, Portis still has two years to run on his contract at $14.5M and $16M. The big man has been linked to several potential trade scenarios for the Bucks over the past year, and if Giannis is indeed heading out the door, we can assume that Portis, his longest-serving teammate, will soon follow him out as the rebuild goes on full blast. We also heard this week that Portis sold his home in Milwaukee, which could be another clue as to what his future holds.
Gary Trent Jr.
To say that Trent's season in Milwaukee was disappointing is an understatement. The former 18 ppg scorer with the Toronto Raptors had his worst season this year, recording just 8.1 points, one rebound, and 1.2 assists per night, in 21 minutes a game. When he did get off the bench, that is, in 65 games. Aside from one 36-point effort for a shorthanded Bucks team late in March, Trent also posted nine games this season of ZERO points, and saw multiple games when he was pinned to the bench.
He has a $3.8 million player option for next season, but given the fact that he was an afterthought for large portions of the season, and is still just 27, it's likely he tries to find greener pastures elsewhere, where he can try to regain his 15 ppg potential.
