Sixers To Pull Off Huge Move After Taking Second-Round Beating

It was another year of The Process that finished in disappointment. Big things have been expected in Philadelphia for the 76ers ever since Joel Embiid was selected with the third overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft (yes, it was that long ago).

They told Philly fans to "trust in the Process', and Embiid even took on The Process as a nickname to honor departed GM Sam Hinkie, who drafted him and coined the phrase.

Now, it's 12 years later, and the Sixers still haven't made it out of the second round.

The man who took over the plan in 2020, GM Daryl Morey, is now the man on the hot seat, and it appears that his days in the City of Brotherly Love are done.

Howard Eskin writes, "Daryl Morey is beyond life support as 76ers President of Basketball Operations, and #Sixers ready to pull the plug.

"Changes are coming for the Sixers after another disappointing season. I'm told by sources the Sixers organization is having serious discussions to fire/replace Daryl Morey, President of Basketball Operations. His record since being hired by the 76ers in 2020 has not been good enough to make it past the 2nd Round of the NBA Playoffs. Terrible track record of Draft Picks, Trades, and signings. The organization feels a change needs to be made."

It's hard to argue against all that. The disastrous decision to bring in Paul George, owner of perhaps the worst contract in all of basketball, and the continued reliance on Embiid, who cannot be counted on to stay on the court, or come up with the clutch wins in the playoffs, have led to the situation that the team is in.

'Sixers have NO CHANCE with Embiid & George'

"As long as Joel Embiid and Paul George make over $110 Million a year combined, over the next 2 years, the Sixers have no chance to win in the playoffs," writes Eskin. He goes on to note that the two of them had a combined plus/minus of -59."

Philly squeaked into theh playoffs by finishing 7th in the East and winning in the Play-In. they somehow knocked off the Boston Celtics in seven games in the first round, but they were in way over their heads against the New York Knicks and got swept in four games, including a 30-point pummeling in Game 4, at home.

Head coach Nick Nurse's job is also in jeopardy, but it sounds like it's Morey who will hit the pavement first.
